The Basic Electronic Components that Are Commonly Used

Electronic components have two or more electrical terminals unlike antennas which may only have one terminal. When building electronic circuits, there are some basic electronic components commonly used. It is quite difficult to identify the components through its value and the more confusing task is to identify pin outs. To get an idea about the components you can refer to the function of some of the basic components.

Capacitor
Capacitor is capable of storing charge. Capacitor is used for frequency selection and for  mixing ac signals from one circuit to another etc. The assembly of capacitor consists of two metallic plates separated by dielectric. Capacitor is capable of voltage handling beyond which the capacitor dielectric breaks down.
The capacitance is defined as : C = Єo Єr A / d
A is the area of plates
d is plates separation
Єo is permittivity of free space
Єr is relative permittivity.

Resistor
A resistor is a common electronic component that will resist the current flow in an electric circuit. Resistor set up correct voltages in a circuit to make it work properly.

Diode
A diode helps in conduction of electricity in one direction. They can be used in series switching or shunt switching in place of relays.  It is commonly used if you want to convert from alternating current (AC) to direct current. Light Emitting Diode (LED) and Zener diode are other types of diodes used.

Integrated Circuit (IC)
An integrated circuit is a circuit made up of various tiny components, tiny resistors, capacitors, and transistors are fabricated and placed in a small package. An IC can function as an amplifier, oscillator, timer or microprocessor.
