Optimizing The Excess Inventory

Overstock inventory is basically careless management of the demand of task or the irregular flow of stock in the market. Whether it is from the supplier delivering too much stock than the needed quantity, or it is the personal carelessness of the buyer, ordering without accessing the requirement first.

Managing the overstock inventory can be a challenging task. Keeping the whereabouts of the inventory should be first most concern for any business and the best way to achieve that is to keep tracks of your inventory.

Quick Orders:

The orders made by customers should be delivered promptly. The speedy and easy delivery is required by customer and they will be repeat customers if they like your services. And there is less chance that your stock will be wasted.

Keep The Record:

You must always have an idea about the amount of inventory you have with you. If you are to deliver a certain amount of stock to your clients, it is extremely important to know how much quantity you actually have and order the supplies accordingly. And having too much of the supplies also result in taking up the space that could otherwise be used for other products that are in demand. It would result in tying up your business money in just one product which can be risky.

Project Requirements:

The requirements of the project are instrumental in deciding how much you need for the project and you can order it accordingly. This way your estimate will be more precise with you having detailed recording of the supplies. This is the perfect way to increase the sales, delivering the products that are in demand.
Warehouse Cost:

The storage space of the warehouse also has to used judiciously. Only the necessary parts should be kept and the storage space should be kept to the minimum so that it doesn't add to the expenses.
Different Ways You Can Track Inventory:

Use advanced techniques to keep the track of inventory, rather than the outdated methods.this will increase the chance of the success of your business.
Larger electronic components inventory, larger the risk would be. The excess inventory will only lead to loss. Excess inventory is the burden on the company.
Depreciation Of The Inventory:

If you do not manage the excess inventory, then in time, its value will decrease, leading to the depreciation of the inventory, leading to the loss of your company. Longer you keep the stock, the lesser will be the value of the stock. So make sure that you somehow manage the stock in such a way that the inventory is timely managed, which can prevent a lot of monetary loss in the later stage.

General Indicators of Failed Components and Reasons Behind the Failure

There are numerous reasons that may result in component failure.  When you Buy electronic component, the component failure is a common situation. The chance of failure drops are increased as they are used. A failure of a component within a system may be due to factors like misuse, wearing-out, or as a consequence of the failure of another system component. Failure is detected when the system does not function the indented work. Component failure may be difficult to identify. Following are the indications that can help you identify the failed components.

Sell Overstock Inventory
Sell Overstock Inventory

Visible- Visual inspection is the most obvious indicator that a specific component has failed. Failed components are depicted by burnt or melted areas or are bulges and expanded. Capacitors are often bulged out. IC packages often have a small hole burned in them.

Smell– A thermal overload occurs due to the failure of the component that causes blue smoke to be released by the damaged component. The smoke also has a very distinct smell and varies by type of component. The smell remains around the component for days and which can help in identifying damaged component during troubleshooting.

Sound- Components makes the brittle sound that indicated that it may have failed. This happens more often with rapid thermal failures, over voltages and over current. When a component fails this suddenly, a smell often accompanies the failure. The components of the system are found loose in the circuit that results in sound, so identifying the component that failed may come down to finding which component is no longer on the PCB.

Testing– Individual testing of components is required to identify the components that have failed. It is quite difficult on a PCB as other components will affect the measurement since all measurements involve supply of current or voltage, the circuit will respond to it and readings can vary. If a system uses several sub systems, often replacing them is a great way to find the issue in the system.

Sometimes the failures are slow and it becomes difficult to identify the component and replace it before it fails completely and the equipment is down. Other failures may be rapid, violent or unexpected. These failures are tested during the certification testing. For repairing of the damaged circuits lots of testing, probing and prepping and then the repair work.

Some Of The Most Common Failure Modes of Electronics

Electronic component failure occurs  most commonly at the beginning and near the end of the lifetime of the parts. The failure of components is typically packaging related. Sometimes the failure is slow which gives time to identify the component and replace it before it fails completely destroying the equipment.

While the failures may be rapid or violent and unexpected, these are tested for during product certification. Some of the most common reasons for components to fail include:

•    Over-current and over-voltage
•    Over temperature
•    Radiation
•    Contamination
•    Packaging
•    Connected incorrectly
•    Manufacturing defect

While you buy electronic component you need to understand that everything fails at some point and electronics are no exception.

The following major failure modes can help designers create more strong designs and even plan for expected failures.

Component Package Failures
The components are properly packed to provide two main function, to protect the component from environment and to provide a way for the component to be connected to the circuit. It may happen that the packing layer may break, thus the outside factors such as humidity and oxygen can affect the ageing of the component and cause it to fail much faster. The component can also be subject to mechanical failure of the package caused by thermal stress, chemical cleaners, and ultraviolet light.

Solder Joint and Contact Failures
The main means of contact between a component and circuit is the solder joint. If you use a wrong type of solder with the component or PCB it can lead to electro migration of the elements in the solder that form fragile layers called inter-metallic layers. These layers lead to broken solder joints.

Another reason for solder joint failure is thermal cycles, especially if the thermal expansion rates of the materials are different. As all of these materials heat up and cool down, massive mechanical stress can damage the component, or the PCB trace may be divided into layers. Tin whiskers on lead free solders can also be a problem.

PCB Failures
Printed circuit boards are susceptible to environmental influences. The soldering and operational environment of a PCB often leads to a variety of PCB failures. Residues of solder flux may aid corrosion, and other materials on PCBs can cause electrical leaks. Other causes of failure include stemming from the manufacturing process. During manufacturing the layers in a PCB board may be uneven leading to short circuits, open circuits, and crossed signal lines. The chemicals used in PCB board drawing may not be fully removed and traces may be formed. The solder flux used to attach all of the components to a PCB may remain on the surface of a PCB which will corrode any metal that comes in contact with it. Thermal cycling is another cause of PCB failures which can lead to de-lamination of the PCB.

All these causes can be prevented by adjusting the design of the circuit accordingly. These failures like mechanical failure, packaging failures etc can be avoided by taking proper care.

The Basic Electronic Components that Are Commonly Used

Electronic components have two or more electrical terminals unlike antennas which may only have one terminal. When building electronic circuits, there are some basic electronic components commonly used. It is quite difficult to identify the components through its value and the more confusing task is to identify pin outs. To get an idea about the components you can refer to the function of some of the basic components.

Capacitor
Capacitor is capable of storing charge. Capacitor is used for frequency selection and for  mixing ac signals from one circuit to another etc. The assembly of capacitor consists of two metallic plates separated by dielectric. Capacitor is capable of voltage handling beyond which the capacitor dielectric breaks down.
The capacitance is defined as : C = Єo Єr A / d
A is the area of plates
d is plates separation
Єo is permittivity of free space
Єr is relative permittivity.

Resistor
A resistor is a common electronic component that will resist the current flow in an electric circuit. Resistor set up correct voltages in a circuit to make it work properly.

Diode
A diode helps in conduction of electricity in one direction. They can be used in series switching or shunt switching in place of relays.  It is commonly used if you want to convert from alternating current (AC) to direct current. Light Emitting Diode (LED) and Zener diode are other types of diodes used.

Integrated Circuit (IC)
An integrated circuit is a circuit made up of various tiny components, tiny resistors, capacitors, and transistors are fabricated and placed in a small package. An IC can function as an amplifier, oscillator, timer or microprocessor.

Basic components may appear simple but they are not that simple. You will need to work with a number of basic electronic components when building circuits. There are many reputed retail companies which Sell Overstock Inventory electronic components and have a good stock of electronic component that you may need any time.

Electric Circuits – Working and its Types

What happens when you switch on a T.V, light or a computer? What is the process going in through these systems? All these system are made of electric circuits, which in turn is made from Electronic Components. The electric circuit function allows current, or flow of electrons, through the wires. The wires in electric circuit carry current through the wires throughout the system just like the blood in our circulatory system.

Below are some of the types of electric circuits used in different systems:

A closed circuit has a complete path for current to flow. This means that it has a complete electrical connection around which current flows or circulates.

An open circuit doesn't have a complete path for current to flow which makes it non functional. In this electrical circuit the continuity is broken so that current does not flow.

A short circuit is responsible for bypassing the part of the circuit, as it has a low-resistance path, usually made unintentionally. This may happen when two exposed wires in a circuit touch each other. The part of the circuit bypassed by the short circuit will not function and a large amount of current will flow. This sometimes generates a lot of heat in the wire and may cause fire.

In a series circuit, through all the components same current flows. Across the whole circuit the total voltage is the sum of the voltage across each component and the total resistance is the sum of the resistances of each component.

In a parallel circuit the current flows through more than one path. Across each component of the parallel circuit the voltage is the same. The sum of the currents through each path is equal to the total current that flows from the source.

Electric circuits are generally complex combinations of series and parallel circuits. It has several applications and the electric lighting is the first application of this for practical use.

The challenges in the supply chain management of these components are ever growing. From the employee's’ compensation to changing business trends and gruesome economic issues, the trade has grown manifolds in size and stature.

In this article, we will have a look at some of the challenges that have affected the purchase departments and created challenges in the purchasing processes globally. The top challenges being faced by buyers have been discussed in the following points. These issues often lead to a lot of stress for the supply chain managers.

  • Quality Products:
Nearly every purchase manager has had issues with the quality of products when dealing in these components. Quality puts a brand at a great risk in the hyper competitive environment and the increasing counterfeiters are putting a lot of stress on the supply chains across the world. They bring in fake components in the supply line and put companies at the risk of delivering substandard or fake components ahead, thus holding their reputation at stake.

  • Economic Stability:
Not every country has a stable economy and each country has a different set of issues to deal with. Political instability, infrastructure challenges etc., affect the businesses dearly. While each major organization is looking forward to expand their operation across the globe and enter developing markets, the volatile political scenario and very often a shaky infrastructure hampers the quality of the products and services alike.

  • Availability Of Components:
The availability of components at the right time continues to be an issue of utmost concern to the purchase managers worldwide. This unstable scenario puts the companies in the state of panic as it can lead to major lag time between completion of projects and affect the cycles of production dearly.

Hence, the companies are now adopting a strategy of having multiple vendors in different areas of the world to have access of component supply during difficult times without having to stop the processes completely.

Every electrical application requires various parts to function properly. And for long functionality, it is essential that appropriate and high quality Electronic Components are used in application. But, how can you ensure the quality of these products.

But why the quality assurance is essential?

The biggest reason to ensure quality is the high number of counterfeit products in market. When it comes to components, there are many fraudulent and counterfeit parts that increase the chances that you might purchase the wrong one. It can lead to problems with your electrical applications as counterfeit parts do not work as good as the real one.

So, it is vital that you buy the original and quality certified parts for your equipment. There are four major quality assurance methods that these manufacturers of these products use and you can trust. It includes ESD Certification, ERAI Certification and ISO Certification.

It is advised that you purchase these components from a respected and reliable buyer so that you rest assured about the quality of products. Reliable and renowned suppliers ensure that they provide good parts only as it affects their reputation and customer base in market. They also inspect each product before supplying or selling it to clients.

Furthermore, you should make sure that the supplier you are relying on, purchases products from domestic OEMs and defence contractors. With this, you can ensure that each component that you purchase can be traced easily. In addition, make sure that the supplier follows certain quality assurance procedures and resources.

It includes microscope analysis, testing & screening, solder ability testing and acetone tests. Packaging matters too when it comes to components. How to Choose A Distributor To Sell Your Excess Inventory

The most essential thing you must do when you are going to sell your excess electronics inventory is to choose an Independent Distributor. The distributor you choose always determine the return on your investment.

Make sure to visit the facility and take a good look around. When interviewing an Independent Distributor check that they have proper manpower and technical support. Certain things need to be verified before you finalize the deal:
  • ISO Certification
ISO certification tells you that Quality Management System of the company is in place and that the system has been reviewed by an outside auditor and the company's own management team. Unless the supplier is ISO certified, many buyers will not add a supplier to their Approved Supplier List.
  • Determining The Value Of A Component
Determining market price for components can be a difficult thing. Some companies check pricing of franchising a web site; while this might be a good start, open market pricing is based upon demand and supply. The type of software tools used, detailed information concerning supply, and competitive pricing help in calculating the price of the inventory.
  • How Many Unique Customers Do You Sell To Each Year?
The volatility and uncertainty of the open market makes supplier relationships really important in today's market. People do business with the ones that they trust. You'll want to evaluate whether the company hires educated, intelligent, educated, and innovative employees who are able to develop and use the tools they will need to sell your inventory. There should be atleast one engineer on staff who can resolve technical questions that could otherwise lead to lost sales.

The software the the Independent Distributor business uses is extremely important. When you visit facility of the company, ask for a demonstration of the software they will use and pay attention to how they monitor demand and supply and how they determine market price.

Some of the Basic Electronic Components and their Functions

When building electronic circuits, we need to work with some of the basic electronic components including resistors, capacitors, transistors, integrated circuits etc. Some of these components are called active components because they are involved in transformation of the energy while other components, that only dissipate energy, are known as passive elements.

Passive components are also called electrical elements. Some of the examples of passive components are:
Resistors:
A resistor is one of the basic components used in electronic circuits that resist the flow of current.
Capacitors:
Capacitor is the second most commonly used component in electronic circuits. It can temporarily store an electric charge. Capacitors come in different varieties, the two common types being ceramic disk and electrolytic. The amount of capacitance is usually measured in micro farads μF.
Diode:
Through diode, the current flows in only one direction. A diode has two terminals, called the anode and the cathode. Current will flow through the diode, when positive voltage is applied to the anode and negative voltage to the cathode. Current will now flow when these voltages are reversed.
Active components are those that have gain or directionality. Example: transistors, integrated circuits or ICs, logic gates. Active components can be further classified as semiconductor devices such as semiconductor diode, zener diode, Varactor diode etc.
Transistor:
A transistor has three terminals called base, collector and emitter. In this a voltage applied to one of the terminals can control current that flows across the other two terminals. The transistor is one of the most important devices in electronics.
Integrated circuit:
An integrated circuit consists of entire components including electronic circuit, complete with transistors, diodes, and other elements. Integrated circuits are the building blocks of modern electronic devices such as computers and cell phones.
All these components are essential for the building of any electronic components. If you want to buy any of these Electronic Components, you can contact a dealer who has a surplus distribution of electronic components.

3 Things To Check Before Choosing An Electronic Components Supplier

Electronic components are common in every field and place. But some industries heavily rely on these products for their daily operations. This is the reason why businesses look for a reliable supplier in market that they can trust for quality and authentic products. There are many suppliers in market who sell electronic components, but choosing one can be a bit difficult.

A variety of products, good reputation, good reviews and a long list of clients might confuse you, which one to choose. But, your decision should be based purely on your business requirements. This is why you need to check 3 things before you select a supplier.

Quality Assurance – Quality matters the most, which is why you need to make sure that the electronic component business you are choosing has a good quality assurance system in place. Before making a decision, ask for their certifications such as ERAI, ESD, ISO and so on.

Quality assurance will ensure that you purchase only authentic and tested electronic components avoiding fraudulent and counterfeit parts. So, if you can trust a supplier with the quality of products, then you are on the right path.

Shipping Information – This is the second thing that you need to know about a supplier. Gather as much information as you can about their shipping including rates, time, methods and more. Get to know if they process shipping within America or outside of the country (if you are ordering from another country).

Return Policy – Many business owners overlook the return policy, which is not a good idea. You should always have the knowledge of this policy as it may be useful in future. Choosing an electronic component supplier without reading the return policy might put you in a dilemma in case of faulty or damaged products, faded markings, damaged packaging etc.

Check the above mentioned three things before choosing an electronic components company for your business to ensure that you get what you paid for.
